Top 4 ways to make your hair look bigger

Hey guys.. Afro/natural hair is a big trend now, everyone is going natural. I know after your big chop you just can’t wait until your hair is big and gorgeous.

Unfortunately you won’t be able to make your hair look bigger immediately after your chop, but there is a lot that you can do to stimulate growth ( details in my previous hair post …).

Once you’ve got a reasonable length there’s more you can do to make it look bigger:

  1. Blow dry it: this could almost double the length of your hair. You can do this if your hair is wet or dry it doesn’t matter however, I do recommend doing it after you’ve washed or conditioned your hair. By doing this you avoid damaging your hair, which can happen if you do this on dry hair.
  2. Braid out : although this takes time, it does less damage than blow drying your hair. I do this every other day. What you do is section and braid your hair ( the more braids the longer your hair will appear), cover your hair and go to sleep. In the morning I spray the braids with some water & apply the product to each braid, after this I undo the braids and comb it out.
  3. A combination of both of the above ways: by doing this you will really get amazing results, I do this before a special occasion if I want to stand out.
  4. Tie your hair: believe it or not but tying your hair up can make it look bigger. This works the same way as the braids, tie up your hair, go to bed and in the morning untie it and comb it out.

These are my top 4 ways to make your hair appear longer/bigger over night. I hope that I helped some of you make your hair look bigger, if I did make sure to tag me in your post ( my social media is in the side bar ). xox Suraya

Vanilla chai cupcakes

I love to experiment with different flavours. So while I was surfing the net I came across vanilla chai tea cupcakes. I’ve tried many different recipes and here is my favourite.

Ingredients

For the Cupcakes:

1/2 cup butter, softened

1 large eggs

2 large egg yolks

1/2 cup brewed vanilla chai tea {2 vanilla chai tea bags} ( I use the one from Woolworths ) another option is to use normal chai tea and double the amount of vanilla extract you use :).

1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

3/4 cup granulated sugar

1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

For the Chai Butter Frosting:

3/4 cup butter, softened

1/2 teaspoon cardamom

1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

pinch of ground ginger

pinch of ground cloves

seeds from 1 vanilla bean

4 cups confectioners’ sugar

2 tablespoons reserved brewed vanilla chai tea

Instructions

For the Cupcakes:

Allow butter egg and egg yolks to stand at room temperature for 30 minutes.

Line 12 muffin cups with cupcake liners.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Brew tea by adding 1 cup of hot water to a mug with 2 vanilla chai tea bags.

Set aside.

In a medium bowl stir together the flour, baking powder and salt.

In a large mixing bowl beat butter on high until creamy.

Add sugar and beat until well combined and fluffy.

Add egg , egg yolks, and vanilla beat until combined.

Alternate the 1/2 cup of brewed vanilla chai tea {reserving the rest for the frosting} and flour mixture, beating on low after each addition just until combined.

Spoon batter into prepared muffin cups, filling each about three-fourths full.

Smooth our batter in cups {batter will be thick}.

Bake 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in centers comes out clean.

Cool cupcakes in muffin cups on a wire rack for 5 minutes.

Remove cupcakes and cool completely on a wire rack.

For the Chai Butter Frosting:

Cream together the butter, cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and seeds from 1 vanilla bean.

Add the sugar and cream until well combined.

Add brewed vanilla chai tea 1 tablespoon at a time until the frosting reaches piping consistency. Pipe on cupcakes or use a spoon to spread it on the cupcakes.

I hope that you’ll enjoy these little cupcakes as much as I do. If you do decide to try them please tag me in your posts. My social media is in the side bar. xox Suraya

Suraya’s keys to grow a healthy mane

Ok so when I’m out and about or in the comments on my Instagram I’m always asked 2 things:

  1. Is my hair real
  2. How I look after my hair

Today I’ve decided to answer those questions and give you a list of all of the products I use and how I use them and yes my hair is real🙄. No more wasting time lets jump straight into it.

  1. Conditioner and Shampoo

This is the most important step in taking care of you natural hair. Your hair is like a sponge, when you feed it moisture it sucks it up within minutes. To prevent dry and brittle hair I recommend that you condition your hair atleast 3 times a day and shampoo your hair every other week.

I also recommend that you do a deep conditioning every other week, this will ensure that you lock in the moisture🔑.

I use the Tresemmé Naturals shampoo and conditioner. Tresemmé has encriched theses products with minerals that will provide your hair with moisture that it needs. However it is quite expensive.
As an alternative to the natural range I use thermal protection shampoo and the remoisturize conditioner. These products are much cheaper than the naturals.

      2. Mizani H2O intense

Like I said earlier moisture is a major key when it comes to caring for natural hair. This product gives your hair extra moisture.

I use this product after I have conditioned my hair. I massage it on my sculp and through to the tips of my hair then I cover it and go to bed, in the morning I wash it out.

     3. Jamiacan black castor oil

Everyone out there wants a big and healthy Afro, this product does that, however, this stuff smells.. but it really helps to accelerate hair growth giving your a fuller healthy looking Afro. This product is thick and makes your hair heavy so I apply it on my sculp and rub it in, then I cover my hair and go to bed. In the morning I wash it out and then condition my hair. This gets rid of the smell and prevents the product from making my hair sticky.

     4. A good comb

I believe in combing my hair, some people don’t. Please please please comb your hair, if you don’t comb your hair you are letting your hair knot and they can make your hair unmanageable, which in turn could force you to cut all of your hair of.

I use a metal comb because it gets rid of the knots better than any plastic comb.

      5. Mizani true textures

This is a styling product. I use it every morning, I put a generous amount in my hand and rub it through my hair then I comb it. Unlike other styling products it does not leave your hair feeling dry, it packs in the moisture it also loosens your curls. This is definitely my number one styling product.

    6.  Aunt Jackie’s curls and coils

This is another styling product, it loosens your curls. I use this product when I want to do a twist out at a braid out. By using it with those styles my making the curls more dramatic. This product also does not make your hair dry and smells amazing.

     7. Water 🔑

Like caring for your skin, it is important to drink a lot of water and eat healthy. What determines the growth of your hair is your what you feed yourself, by eating junk food your hair growth could be stunted. So remember to eat healthy if you want your hair to grow healthy.

By following my tips you should be able to grow your hair much faster. Also feel free to ask me any further questions in the comments below. I hope you found this useful.

My top 5 lipsticks

1. Heroine by Mac
I am definitely one for out of the box colours and heroine is definitely that.

This colour is perfect for a night out or if you want to stand out at an event. The best thing about this colour is that it looks great on any skin colour.

2. Photo by Mac

Every girl needs a good brown lipstick. My number one brown lipstick has to be photo.

It’s a matte lipstick that lasts all day long. Again this colour works on every complexion and has a unique look on everyone which makes it great.

3. Ingénue by Revlon

Every girl needs a nude lipstick, to add a little something to their everyday look.

This is my everyday nude, it has a pinkish tinge to it. I must say that it keeps your lips moisturised the whole day. This lipstick is great, however, it does not suit everyone, so I recommend that you try it on and get someone’s opinion before you buy it.

4. Stone by Mac

This is great for a night out. It has that ashy look, but does not make your lips look dry.

This colour looks kind of brown on people with a lighter complexion, it looks more grey on me with a slight touch of brown.

This colour looks amazing on every and any complexion out there.

5. Grandest grape by Clinique

This colour is kind of a mix of Heroine and Ingénue with a touch of pink. I like to wear this colour when I don’t feel brave enough to wear Heroine.

This colour is more glossy and keeps your lips moisturised throughout the day. It looks great on every complexion.

How I edit my selfies for Instagram

As I mentioned in my previous post I edit my photos with Vsco and PicsArt. However, when it comes to selfies I only use Vsco for editing.

Today I’m going to show you what filter I use ( when it’s not black and white ) on all of my selfies. Here we go:

1. Pick a selfie

This is probably the hardest part. As a girl I take like a million selfies just to chose one & I know we all do. I take all of my selfies on snapchat, somehow I find it better than my normal selfie cam.
2. Choose a filter

I just love a good filter. My favourite Vsco filter is A4 analogue. This is not a default filter, but it is free from the Vsco store. I put it on +9 because it works best for my skin tone. So play and adjust it until it suits your skin tone.
3. Adjust the exposure

I only do this because the filter I use can is rather pale. So I only adjust it slightly to -1.

4. Adjust the temperature

I only do this to a few of my selfies in order to make them go with my feed, so I only adjust it slightly ( -1 , which is cooler )
5. Adjust the skin tone

I use -2 which gives my photos a pinkish undertone to go with my feed.
6. Post it

✨ and you’re ready to post it on Instagram.

I hope that you found my tips helpful and that you try them out yourself. If you do make sure you tag me @surayadereige so I can see you glow. Don’t forget to comment your thoughts and suggestions for future posts below xox Suraya.

Suraya’s Tips and Tricks for Instagram

Have you ever wonder how people get their photos to look so flawless on the Gram… How do they do that? and How do they get so many followers? I was in the same position once. I’ve done loads of research and tested many things and this is what has worked for me.

For editing pics

1. A good camera
You’d be surprised to find out that most people with high quality pictures all over their profile, often don’t own the cameras that we associate with photographers.

The best tool to have nowadays is the device that you carry everywhere with you, yes your cellphone. I take all of my pictures on my iPhone.

2. Good lighting

To me this is the most important thing ( besides a camera ) needed to take a photo. Lighting is everything!!! You can’t go back and add lighting once you’ve taken a photo.

For selfies I suggest standing by a window or outside or even a white/bright object.

3. Editing and filters

Almost 99% of the photos that you see on Instagram have gone through some editing. The editing that I’m speaking of has nothing to do with body manipulation, I’m talking about adjusting the contrast of a photo and that stuff. All of my editing is done on Vsco & PicsArt, I mainly use these for filters ( I prefer to add the filters after I’ve taken the photo ).

PicsArt: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/picsart-photo-studio-all-in/id587366035?mt=8

For gaining followers

1. Follow people with a similar style & taste to yourself

Don’t be afraid to follow as many people as you wish, this gets your account out there. By following people with similarities to yourself you could end up being posted as a similar account which could make their followers take a glance at your account and even follow you.

2. Use tags

By using tags you put your account out there for people who have used the same hashtags to see, which could lead to you gaining followers.

I have tried all of the methods I’ve stated above and they’ve worked for me & I hope that they work for you as well. Now let’s take a look at my Instagram ( @surayadereige ):
